This mackerel is fished using small net sacks off the coasts of Spain and Portugal by small sized community based fishing boats that go out at night and return in the morning. No drag nets or no factory ships are used, there is no fishing during the breeding season and under sized fish are not caught and the fish is not frozen either on board or on land, only the fillet of the fish is used.
