River Cottage Hempseed Oil
This oil is prduced from the finola seed variety, renowned for its excellent flavour. The hempseed used is grown in the Middlesborough area, without the use of chemical fertilisers or pesticides and pressed and bottled here in the UK. The River Cottage hempseed oil is a delicious and versatile culinary oil. It has tremendous character - a distinctive, nutty taste, with a hint of hay - and can be used just like the finest olive oil.
Further to its superb properties for cleansing and moisturizing the skin, hemp oil is also a nutritionist's dream. Hemp oil is unique in its make up and rivals oils such as flax seed oil as a dietary supplement. It contains many of the Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) that the body requires for healthy day-to-day operation. These EFAs are present in the right ratio for optimum absorbance into the body. It is also a good source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), the main valued content of Evening Primrose Oil, which is believed to help pre-menstrual tension and may be successful in the treatment of eczema, menopause and arthritis.
Hemp oil is a rich source of EFAs - omega 6 linoleic, omega 3 alpha linolenic and GLA that are important for optimum health in the body. EFAs cannot be produced by the body itself and are vital for the structure and functions of tissues in the body. Omega 3, 6 and GLA in hemp oil are present in a biochemically optimal ratio of 2.5:1 respectively. It is the presence of these fatty acids in this particular ratio that helps improve skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne. Hemp oil may also benefit other inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
Hemp oil should be taken daily, it is a delicious nutty oil and is great in salad dressings or mayonnaise. Due to its precious fragile EFAs it should not be used for frying or cooking, however it can be poured over pasta to give extra flavour.
Directions: adults 1 to 2 tablespoons a day preferably with food; babies under 14 months 1 - 2 teaspoons a day with food; and small children over 14 months should take 2 - 4 teaspoons a day. The skin will become soft, smooth and velvety when optimum benefit is reached.
Regular adult users report that their skin becomes softer, nails and hair stronger and thicker after only a few weeks of 1-2 tablespoons per day.
